Timberland has linked up with Tokyo-based label The Apartment to create an ocean-traversing Field Boot, dubbed “The Old Man and the Sea.”
Toasting to the 15th anniversary of The Apartment’s Kichijoji shop, the silhouette is inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s 1952 novella, The Old Man and the Sea, with references to the original Field Boot, born in 1983.
Nodding to popular East Coast styles in the early 2000s, the design features an all-leather midsole with a color-switching pattern. The upper is composed of emerald green nubuck, with mixed in classic brown leather. The side panels and tongue boast sea-inspired motifs, while the insole and back tag house The Apartment logo alongside Timberland’s signature iconography. Rounding out the design specs, the laces are meant to evoke a boat’s mooring ropes.
The Field Boot marks the latest development in the duo’s collaborative rolodex. The brands previously joined forces on a Heritage GTX Moc Toe Mid, which employed a brown leather and green suede upper, with a GORE-TEX® membrane.
Timberland and The Apartment’s “The Old Man and The Sea” Field Boot will launch on March 20 via the brands’ webstores. The product will be priced at ¥23,100 JPY. Take a closer look at the design in the gallery above.
