The first iteration of the Nike TN hit the market in 1998. And now, a quarter of a century later, the model still reigns supreme as a cult favorite among sneaker-enthusiasts in New York, London, and Paris. With each drop, the highly-coveted design also still commands a strong presence on Foot Locker shelves across the globe.
Officially named as Nike Air Max Plus, the Nike TN was envisioned by designer Sean McDowell who was tasked with creating a sneaker that showcased the brand’s Tuned Air cushioning technology for the first time. For the design, McDowell drew inspiration from his vacation in Florida. Influenced by its natural beauty, he designed a sneaker with TPU overlays, which were woven throughout the shoe to mimic the state’s lush palm trees, while a gradient color treatment offered the feeling of the vibrant Florida sunsets.
To celebrate the sneaker’s continued legacy, several Hypebeast Live performers—KIARA (Ashley Kiara), Nicolette, Sivanesh, TropicLab, HBN, and DONN—sported the Nike TNs during their sets. Foot Locker armed each performer with a unique pair that showcased their individual style and personality. Hosted at TRIFECTA SINGAPORE and Somerset Skate Park, the star-studded event featured curated music performances, creative presentations, and brand activations.
Since its release over 25 years ago, the silhouette has been released in hundreds of colorways and textiles that include leather editions, Ultra makeovers, and slip-ons. Hypebeast Live saw a few of its popular variations.
In addition to the jam-packed music lineup, the event also featured a live graffiti showcase from CLOGTWO, also donning a pair of Nike TNs. The night not only immersed audiences into the world of Hypebeast through the lens of music and art but also celebrated Nike TN’s storied history with Foot Locker.
